The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all on-site construction activities for assigned projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project plans and specifications. This role manages daily field operations including site safety, subcontractor coordination, schedule management, quality control, and trade partner performance.

The Superintendent works closely with the Project Manager to lead the project team in the field and ensure successful project delivery. This individual serves as the primary on-site leader responsible for maintaining jobsite productivity, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring that construction activities align with project documentation and client expectations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Field Operations & Site Management

  • Direct and manage daily on-site construction activities and field personnel.
  • Supervise subcontractors and ensure compliance with project schedules, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Mobilize the jobsite and coordinate installation of temporary utilities and site logistics.
  • Develop and maintain the project site logistics plan in coordination with the Project Manager.
  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for subcontractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure construction work is executed according to project drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports documenting jobsite progress, issues, manpower, and photo documentation.
  • Monitor and evaluate subcontractor crew performance, productivity, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for jobsite safety, operations, and compliance.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce and maintain compliance with all project safety plans and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and ensure safety protocols are followed by all personnel.
  • Prepare Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) or Site-Specific Safety Plans (SPAs) as required.
  • Monitor subcontractor safety performance and ensure proper use of PPE.
  • Ensure compliance with SWPPP requirements and mitigate environmental impacts on the surrounding community.
  • Coordinate with local inspectors and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with licensing, safety, and building requirements.

Schedule & Quality Control

  • Develop and implement the project baseline schedule in coordination with the Project Manager and subcontractors.
  • Prepare and maintain weekly look-ahead schedules.
  • Monitor project progress to ensure milestones and deadlines are achieved.
  • Conduct regular coordination meetings with subcontractors regarding safety, quality, and schedule.
  • Perform inspections to verify quality of workmanship and compliance with project standards.
  • Ensure all construction activies follow approved drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

Coordination & Communication

  • Communicate project progress, issues, and field conditions daily with the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate inspections and ensure compliance with local codes, permits, and licensing requirements.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to secure utilities, permits, plan approvals, and Certificates of Occupancy.
  • Review and assist in approving subcontractor payment applications with the Project Manager.
  • Maintain professional communication with project stakeholders, clients, and community representatives when necessary.

Project Closeout

  • Manage subcontractor project closeout activities.
  • Coordinate punch list completion and final inspections.
  • Verify accuracy of final record drawings.
  • Coordinate owner training, system handover, and turnover documentation.
  • Ensure utilities are transferred and final project documentation is completed.

Technical Skills Requirements

  • OSHA 30 Certification required
  • Experience with K-12, Aviation, TI work projects preferred
  • Procore project management software expertise
  • Bluebeam proficiency
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of construction contracts and construction law
  • Ability to coordinate multiple trades and activities simultaneously
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced construction environment

Qualifications

  • 6–10 years of relevant construction experience, including supervisory or superintendent-level responsibilities.
  • Proven experience managing subcontractors, schedules, and jobsite operations.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage diverse trade partners and field personnel.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • Ability to pass drug and background screenings.
